Don't Let Good Candidates Get Away!

How to maximise your recruitment success

You've paid to get your vacancy out to the widest possible audience. Don't waste your investment! Here's what to do (and not do) to maximise your chances of success.

DO:
  • Review all CVs each day. There is a reason why we don't send them in a big bunch at the end of the campaign.
  • Contact candidates that look of interest within 24 to 48 hours of receiving their application.
  • Start first interviews within seven days of screening conversations.
  • Look at CVs with an open mind. Have a conversation if there is a glimmer of potential.
  • Persist to make contact. Not everybody listens to voicemail messages. The best way to contact candidates is to take a 3 pronged approach: 1) telephone call 2) text message 3) e-mail.
  • Approach your recruitment from a “why would they want to work with us”, rather than a “prove why we should hire you” perspective.
DON'T:
  • Don't wait for the campaign to finish before you start making contact. The best candidates are not hanging around.
  • Don't discount applicants that don't tick ALL of your boxes on paper. This is a tough market and you will need to be flexible to get the best people on board.
  • Don't let this recruitment project slip down your list of priorities. Once projects start to creep you lose traction and will be back to square one before you know it.
  • Don't be surprised by the CVs for people that are patently unsuitable. Unless you have opted for the additional screening service, you will receive every single application. The Good. The Bad. The Ugly. (Ugly CV's that is. Because everyone is beautiful!)
